Although they lead companies with global interests, each of our more than 150 members truly understands the importance of engaging with the community in which they and their employees work and live. The organization has been a catalyst in Dallas for nearly 80 years, with many remarkable accomplishments impacting the critical policy areas of healthcare, education, water resources, regional transportation, arts, economic development, as well as other areas essential for progress in Dallas.
SERVING BY LEADING IN HEALTHCARE
Dallas Citizens Council promotes policies that spur the vital progress of Dallas as a healthy city. Working with Dallas Medical Resource, we support improvement in the public healthcare system. In 2014, Dallas Citizens Council passed a resolution to encourage the Texas Legislature to negotiate a Texas Solution to provide access to insurance for low-income Texans by expanding Medicaid. We concluded the long-term consequences of refusing the expansion program would hurt business and millions of uninsured and underinsured Texans. We will continue to collaborate with partners for Medicaid expansion until quality healthcare is available for all Dallas residents.
SERVING BY LEADING IN PUBLIC AND HIGHER EDUCATION
Dallas Citizens Council is committed to quality education for all students. With a keen understanding of the importance of leadership, Dallas Citizens Council is also committed to learning about the challenges facing our education leaders and then lending assistance and resources where we can have the most impact. We support public education initiatives that improve educational opportunities and student outcomes and support policies that promote the long-term success of Dallas ISD. In higher education, Dallas Citizens Council believes Dallas’ colleges and universities are an asset to the community, driving innovation and providing our students with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed today and tomorrow. We advocate for funding for the region’s higher education institutions to further enhance their national academic standing for the overall benefit of North Texas.
SERVING BY LEADING ON TRANSPORTATION
Dallas Citizens Council believes North Texas cannot continue to grow without solid, well-funded transportation infrastructure. We partner with entities throughout the region, state and nation to support responsible, sustainable funding for transportation infrastructure. Transportation policy priorities for us include the Trinity Parkway component of the Trinity River Corridor Project and viable options that increase funding for regional transportation.
SERVING BY LEADING ON WATER RESOURCES
Dallas Citizens Council believes the well-being of generations to come depends on securing a long-term water supply for the region. We support conservation efforts and advocate for wise water policies on federal, state and local levels. Support for Marvin Nichols Reservoir in the state water plan is a water policy priority for Dallas Citizens Council.
